DILG Region 12 Hosts Barangay Information Management System (BIMS) Orientation

On December 4, 2024, the Regional Information Communication and Technology Unit (RICTU) of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region 12 conducted the first batch of the Barangay Information Management System (BIMS) orientation at the DILG Regional XII office in Koronadal City. The event specifically brought together participants from the provinces of Sarangani and South Cotabato, marking a significant step toward improving local governance through technology.

The orientation focused on the Barangay Information Management System (BIMS), a key component of the LGU Support System (LGUSS). LGUSS is a suite of information systems designed to assist cities, municipalities, and barangays in streamlining their operations. These systems, provided at no cost to local government units (LGUs), are part of a broader initiative to enhance the efficiency, accountability, transparency, and responsiveness of local governance.

BIMS, a comprehensive and digitally integrated platform, aims to strengthen Barangay Local Government Units (BLGUs) across the Philippines by providing them with technological tools that improve service delivery, data management, and community engagement. The system empowers barangays to operate more efficiently, address community needs, and ensure better governance at the grassroots level.

The orientation was attended by City/Municipal Local Government Operations Officers (C/MLGOOs), DILG Provincial Barangay Information System Focal Persons, and 47 Barangay Secretaries from the provinces of Sarangani and South Cotabato. These local government representatives were provided with essential training and practical knowledge on how to effectively utilize the BIMS platform within their respective barangays.

This event reflects the DILG’s ongoing commitment to modernizing local governance and strengthening the capacity of barangays to better serve their communities. By introducing the BIMS system, the DILG is promoting data-driven decision-making and fostering more transparent, accountable, and responsive local governance. With the support of modern technology, barangays in Sarangani and South Cotabato are now poised to enhance their operations and better meet the needs of their residents.

As more barangays in Region 12 adopt the BIMS platform, the DILG plans to continue empowering local leaders with the tools necessary for effective governance, ensuring that technology remains a cornerstone for sustainable and inclusive development at the local level.
